Farragut Systems has long-term experience in performing business process analysis and recommending changes in business process for counties and cities. For the City of Raleigh, NC, we worked with City personnel and the local development community to assess and then re-design the land development business process This type of work has typically taken two routes. Sometimes, for example, business process re-engineering can be associated with the implementation of enterprise applications. The implementation of IPM, for example, leads to modified parcel maintenance processes, since the resulting application cuts across multiple departments and overlaps with existing responsibilities. Because of our experience in doing this type of work, however, we often perform business process reengineering outside of the context of changes in technology. Oftentimes, we have found that organizations can achieve improvements in efficiencies by redesigning how they do their work. For Boulder County, CO, we significantly redesigned how they performed data maintenance activities associated with both GIS and CAMA information.
